MH / PRR Headset System
Atlantic Signal was approached by a NATO military organization in 2005 and asked to develop a tactical bone conduction headset for them to replace the over the ear style headset that is included as standard with the Selex Personal Role Radio (PRR). The client had received a number of complaints from soldiers in the field regarding the standard headset including discomfort related to the strapping system, a loss of situational and directional awareness on the ear cup side of the headset and the inability to incorporate any form of electronic or inert hearing protection.
Unlike conventional military hand-held portables, the PRR is a short range tactical radio that operates independently of any RF infrastructure. With only 50 milliwatts of power provided by two disposable AA Alkaline batteries, the PRR radio would not work with our bone conduction headset line.
As a result, we designed, developed and ultimately manufactured the world's first and only tactical bone conduction headset system that operates with the PRR radio and has no reliance or negative impact whatsoever with the AA battery power utilized by the radio.
We developed our own water-tight, power supply housing that holds two disposable AA cells that equal the duty cycle, battery life requirements of the radio (1 hour TX / 7 hours RX / 16 hours standby). The housing is available with a stainless steel, alligator-style clip for affixing to various styles of LBE and MOLLE vest systems. We also offer a MOLLE carrying pouch for the housing as an alternative method of attaching to a vest.
Our PRR interface affords a client the choice from the MH180H, MH180V and MH3 upper headset styles as any of these models will work with the PRR – it’s simply a matter of choice for the client.
